Anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner: why it's best to use both.
FACT: You should use a regular conditioner after you use a dandruff shampoo.
JAMES R. SCHWARTZ: This is a very interesting one. This is one that people miss, dermatologist miss, everybody misses. I can do everything in my world to help a person with a scalp problem. I can make the best product in the world. I can get them to use the product. And then you could still come back to me and say: "Jim, it's not working" and I start saying "What do you mean it's not working"? People don't think about what do I use after that product? And it might make a difference. So the conditioner that people will often use, a rinse-off conditioner, can make a big difference. Dermatologists miss this all the time. When they talk about treating a condition, you have to worry about you use afterwards. If you follow up with a Pyrithione zinc containing conditioner, you don't loose the deposition because you're replacing it with it. So if you're going to use a rinse-off conditioner, you must use a rinse-off conditioner that has the same material in it as the shampoo.
